Purebred Lipizzaners bred to excel in dressage

Okay, so he's not a horse. But this beautiful guy is Dodger, a white Boxer, who came to us courtesy of a local organization, Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue. We urge anyone interested in getting a dog to contact their local animal shelter or breed rescue. Dodger is a poster child for rescue dogs - he was sick, emaciated and abused, but today he is happy, healthy and the most loving dog in the world!

Recently, the farm was featured on the local CBS news in a feature called "Cable Country". To view it, please click here

It may take a while to load, but it is full of beautiful footage of the horses playing in the snow!

Below are some of our more "permanent" residents of Four Pillars Farm.

We will soon be joined by "King", adopted from the kill pen at a New Jersey auction and currently being rehabilitated so he is able to make the trip to our farm. He has GAINED 200 lbs since his rescue, with several hundred more to go. Old friends might remember my first horse, Tagg, was adopted from this same New Jersey auction in 1990!

He sure does look like a Lipizzan....hmmm....DNA test is on order!

Is he the lost son of Bana Conversano???

DAM

AIDA

Favory IV Delta
Anacostia

Born 8/19/2008 ∙ USLR F515-08

This long-awaited filly came just after midnight on August 19th, 2008. "Addie" is the result of the hard work of Dr. John Dascanio at Virginia Tech and Equine Medical Services in Missouri via embryo transfer. Her genetic mother, "Tia", proved unable to carry a foal and we decided to investigate other means to have a foal out of her.

As expected, Addie is everything we ever hoped for! Both sire and dam are Tempel-bred and have amazing show records. Addie is the first to the gate, the one who demands to be petted and the easiest to catch. We can't help but wonder how much of her unbelievably calm demeanor comes from thinking her mom was really a quiet, sweet paint mare? Just don't make her mad - then she really shows she IS the daughter of Anacostia!

CONVERSANO II DESTINA

Conversano II Erica
Destina
$10,000

Born 4/29/1996 ∙ USLR C487-02

Born at Pine Mountain Lipizzans in Lamar, Arkansas, "Strauss" was a Christmas present from my father in 1997. Together we have learned great things together and even scored an amazing 80.1% in Wellington! My friends here call him "The Tank" and he has quickly become (in)famous at the dressage shows in Southwest Virginia for his lovely extended trot . This is what a partnership is all about! Strauss is also the horse I offer my students to take lessons on. He is wonderful about making riders ask CORRECTLY to get the results! He is currently earning his keep at Sue Ott's farm in Bedford, VA.

DIRTY DITTY

Spotted Pony Mule

Ditty came in April 2009 when Mary Sue Acuff passed away. Mary Sue had Ditty since he was weaned, and he is QUITE a character, as most mules are. He loves to have his ears scratched and truly believes (quite correctly) that he runs the farm.

Ditty was also a wonderful friend to my first horse, Tagg, who passed away several years ago. He is a wonderful reminder of the "old days" and we love him dearly. He has overcome severe founder and enjoys sneaking through holes in the fences. He is 32 years young!

EMMA II

Maestoso Amata II
Edesanya

Born 4/13/1995 ∙ USLR M415-96

The first time I saw her was when she came down the ramp at our farm, and I said, "That is the most beautiful horse I have ever seen!!!" I know a "Mom" isn't supposed to play favorites, but Emma is definitely mine. I put my hands on this mare and I feel a special peace in being with her. She has that calm, majestic presence that you spend a lifetime looking for, and gives it to her foals. I am truly in awe of this great mare, and feel blessed to have her in my life!

Cricket

Connemara Pony

Cricket, known during his show career as Chicklette Bug, came to Four Pillars in April 2009 when his owner, my best friend Mary Sue Acuff, passed away.

This high-energy dressage pony (now age 30!!!) has found a new owner in my son, Preston. Cricket graciously allows Preston to groom him while he sits perched in his feed bucket. He really doesn't mind the treats that are showered upon him but the pony rides are a bit beneath him.

It is truly wonderful to see him bucking and galloping through the pastures here with the mares. He is very happy!
